Solitary Bone Plasmacytoma
Abstract
Solitary plasmacytoma of bone is uncommon and occurs in 3% to 5% of the patients with plasma cell neoplasms. It may involve any bone, but most commonly it arises in a vertebra (in about 1/3rd of the patients). The typical patient is more frequently male (70%) and about 7 years younger than the typical patient with multiple myeloma. We report a case of a 45 years old female who presented with a painful swelling at the left shoulder joint. On X-ray, a lytic lesion was seen on the posterior part of upper end of humerus. FNAC from the site showed presence of sheets of plasma cells. Bone marrow aspirate contained no evidence of multiple myeloma and immunoelectrophoresis of the serum showed no M protein.
