Arora SPS, Bal MS, Singal P

Abstract

Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) has gained wide acceptance in the evaluation of salivary gland lesions. During the past decade it has been used with high degree of accuracy. Sialadenosis is a bilateral recurrent, non-inflammatory, non-neoplastic disease of salivary glands, mainly the parotids. It is of unknown etiology, mostly associated with an underlying systemic disorder. There is no relation of swelling with meals. Two cases of sialadenosis of parotid gland are being discussed. A 53 year diabetic female presented with a bilateral parotid swelling and the other patient, a 47 year old alcoholic male, presented with bilateral parotid swelling, of six months duration. FNA smears, in both the cases, showed mainly acinar cells with no inflammatory cells.
