Abstract

This study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of aspiration cytology in the diagnosis of granulomatous lesions of the skin. A total of 153 suspected cases were evaluated for detailed cytological features. Histology was available in only 118 cases. Dermal granulomatous lesions are classified as : (1) Predominantly mononuclear (2) Mixed cell and (3) Palisading / Necrobiotic. Among mononuclear group, 151 cases and mixed group 2 cases were reported. Among palisading group, no case was reported. In all the cases cytology correlated well with history. In four cases of leprosy there was no problem in diagnosing leprosy but sub classification on Ridley and Jopling scale differed especially in border line group.
