Abstract

This study evaluates the role of cytology in diagnosing fungal infections of the skin. Five cases of cutaneous mycosis were studied by cytology. These included chromomycosis, candidiasis, alternariosis, blastomycosis and sporotrichosis. Diagnosis was attempted by cytological methods.  Confirmation was done by biopsy and fungal culture. Three of these five cases could be diagnosed by cytology. The final diagnosis was established by histopathological examination and fungal culture.
