Conventional Pap-Smear Screening for Human Papilloma virus Related Lesions of the Cervix
A screening of conventional pap-smear was carried out on 1503 women within the age group of 20-70 years who came here for routine check-up. The aim of this study was to detect incidence of different cervical lesions of Human Papilloma virus infection, such as low-grade squamous intraepithelial and high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions including invasive carcinoma. As conventional Pap-smear tests are done routinely, reliable and have consistently satisfactory sensitivity and specificity, they were used to screen or the lesions of human papilloma virus. Pap smear is the time tested reliable investigative tool we can rely upon in detecting the earliest precancerous lesions in cervix and vagina in a general population.
