Abstract

The diagnostic value of crush preparation cytology of endoscopic biopsy samples from gastroesophageal malignancies was studied with the aim to evaluate accuracy of this new technique and comparison with that of conventional histopathology. The accuracy rate of both the crush cytology and biopsy histology was 96.08%. Correlation of cytological and histopathological subtypes was found in 95.92%. Diagnostic accuracy of this technique in our study is correlated well with that of other workers. The crush cytology is very important diagnostic technique as it expedites the wok up of patients. It gives positive yield even if biopsy specimen contains some representative material but insufficient material for definite histological categorization. This technique can be a useful adjunct to the two conventional methods of endoscopic biopsy and brush cytology.
