Abstract
This study was carried out to determine the utility of fine needle aspiration cytology under USG-guidance in the diagnosis of intraocular tumours. The study was done at Regional Institute of Opthalmology, Medical College, Kolkata over a period of 18 months. Fifty-four cases of intraocular tumours were selected according to findings of CT-scan, USG and clinical features. Of the fifty-four cases, fifty cases were neoplastic and only four cases were non-neoplastic (pseudotumour). Most of the neoplasms were malignant. Histopathological correlation was available in 40 cases and showed that accuracy of FNAC diagnosis was 82.50%. Role of FNAC is important because early diagnosis gives an opportunity for early treatment planning which is beneficial to the patients.
